Regional Insights and Enabling Programs: Decarbonisation Pathways 2024
The NSW Energy and Resources Knowledge Hub hosted an information sharing seminar for industry and communities to discuss and demystify programs and opportunities available to help access decarbonisation pathways.
Overview
Enabling Decarbonisation Pathways; a NSW Energy and Resources Knowledge Hub event.
On Monday 29th July, the NSW Energy and Resources Knowledge Hub hosted an information sharing seminar for industry and communities to discuss and demystify programs and opportunities already available to help access decarbonisation pathways. The NSW Energy and Resources Knowledge Hub plays an active role in facilitating connections and sharing knowledge to solve problems, support business and open up opportunities for the new energy economy.
Understanding the regulatory environment and accessing opportunities, resources and technologies for decarbonisation can seem complex. As a response this event was designed to provide a complete picture of decarbonisation and net zero, including regional perspectives, support and programs available through the NSW Government, new and upcoming initiatives, grants, collaboration and export opportunities, as well as providing the occasion to meet the experts in this field.
This included insights into the progress of the NSW Decarbonisation Innovation Hub (The Decarb Hub) and its three networks; Land and Primary Industries (LPI), Electrification and Energy Systems (EES) and Powerfuels including Hydrogen (PFH). The Decarb Hub and networks, funded by the NSW Government, are accelerating and attracting investment into decarbonisation technology and services projects in NSW, and The Decarb Hub representatives shared their enthusiasm about projects making carbon reduction a reality, with practical leads to simplify the decarbonisation landscape.
Speakers from departments actively engaged in developing opportunities for decarbonisation in NSW and beyond were able to provide context and clarity around programs ready to assist, fund, connect and enable carbon reduction strategies. Speakers included:
- Kate Ware, NSW Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development
- Tim Stock, NSW Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water
- John Fletcher, EES Network, Liz Smith, LPI Network, James Christian, PFH Network, NSW Decarbonisation Innovation Hub
- Isaac Court, Austrade
- Sharon Foster and Kutay Kesim, NSW Premier’s Department - Trade and International
- Michael Page, National Reconstruction Fund Corporation (NRFC)
- Alan Broadfoot, Executive Director, NIER
Attendees found value in expert perspectives from the different sectors of research, industry and government, and the practical information such as opportunities for international trade links, means to access newly launched seed grants from the EES network, and investment considerations and priority areas of NRFC.
