O2N Tour of NIER, University of Newcastle
A visit to NIER at the University of Newcastle is the beginning of a strong partnership between the University and the Central-West/Orana region of NSW.
Overview
Building Connections with the Orana/Central-West Region of NSW
On Monday 31st May, NIER welcomed a delegation visiting from Dubbo and the broader central-west region of NSW involved in the Orana Opportunity Network (O2N).
It’s an exciting time for the region, with significant state and federal support in infrastructure, METS, energy and business development activities. The O2N was launched last year to support the development of businesses across the region into growth and exports, improving sustainability and increasing investment and connectivity.
The University of Newcastle, through NIER, is a Foundation Partner of the O2N initiative, and is helping to build connections for the University and the broader Hunter region to engage and collaborate with this productive and diversified region.
The visiting delegation received a customised tour of NIER’s purpose-built technical laboratories and industrial-scale pilot plant workshops, followed by a range of presentations showcasing the research capabilities and technologies relevant to the region. Various platforms of engagement were explored, including the Doctoral Training Centres, with presentations from a number of current candidates on their projects.
“The visit demonstrated that links between research and industry will help better inform decision making and growth in businesses from small to large scale. I saw great opportunities to engage through the Doctoral Training Program.” Shane Alderdice, Midwest Food & Liquor.
This event was proudly supported by the NSW Energy and Resources Knowledge Hub, with supporting partners RDA Orana and NIER.
