As part of the Hunter Innovation Festival, the NSW Energy and Resources Knowledge Hub was a participating organisation in the Hunter Circular Economy Think Tank facilitated by Coreo.
Overview
The NSW Energy and Resources Knowledge Hub was a participating organisation in the Hunter Circular Economy Think Tank held in Newcastle in May 2021. The event was facilitated by Coreo in collaboration with Lake Macquarie City Council, University of Newcastle (Hunter Research Foundation Centre), Sustainability Advantage, Hunter Joint Organisation (HJO), GoCircular and the Knowledge Hub. The Think Tank aimed to educate participants about material flows and benefits of Circular Economy to the region over the next 5-25 years, while realising a plan for action in the represented sectors and organisations.
The event comprised of 118 participants divided into eleven multi-disciplinary teams, who collaborated to generate potential circular economy solutions to priority materials in the region.
The day was divided up into two sections - Theory and Practice. Initially participants were given foundational educational on the key principles and business models of circular economy, including an overview of the present state of circular economy in the Hunter Region. In the second half of the day, each team worked to shape three ideas for their allocated table topic. After receiving feedback on their ideas, teams refined their best idea into a real and practical concept which they presented in a 90 second pitch to the audience.
