ABB has commissioned a global mining sustainability report, that features insights from over 400 mining experts and key decision makers from nine regions including Australia.

Over the past five years, the mining industry has seen moderate investment in transformation. However, nearly half (47%) of mining companies anticipate significant transformations and believe their organisations will start to invest even more over the next 5 years, leading to significant transformation by 2030.

Stuart Cowie, Head of Process Industries, ABB
Stuart Cowie is the head of ABB Australia’s Process Industries business, where he oversees ABB’s automation and electrical solutions across industries such as mining, metals production, pulp and paper, and cement.

Stuart joined ABB in 1998. In 2002, he was appointed General Manager of Industrial Automation in New Zealand before moving to Australia in 2012 to take on the role of Service Manager for the Process Automation before being appointed to head the Process Industries business in 2016.

Stuart has over 35 years’ experience in the paper, metals and mining industry and through this time he has been involved with sales, service and project management of automation and electrification projects.

Stuart holds a Higher Diploma in Electrical Engineering from Witwatersrand Technikon in South Africa, a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of South Africa, and earned his MBA from the University of Auckland in New Zealand.

Sarah Coleman, Chief Executive Officer, Idoba Sarah Coleman is the Chief Executive Officer of idoba; a digital transformation company dedicated to solving the toughest challenges for the mining industry and beyond.

Sarah is an experienced mining and management consulting executive. She has worked with a wide range of top tier organisations across industries of mining, oil and gas, manufacturing, and healthcare.

Sarah founded ImpRes (Improvement Resources) in 2010, specialising in business improvement for the resources sector, and in 2012, formed her second company Sandpit Innovation, to specialise in developing leading edge technology and innovation solutions for the mining sector. In 2020 Sandpit and ImpRes were acquired by Perenti Group, a global mining services provider with over ~11,000 employees. Under Sarah’s leadership as the CEO, idoba has grown through the strategic acquisitions of Optika Solutions, Orelogy, and Atomorphis. idoba is now a leading innovation ecosystem.

Sarah is passionate about challenging traditional thinking and barriers that have been the constraints as well as the norms of working environments. She is driven to forge a new path for her own children and future generations where being who you are is more than enough and freedom of thought is not only encouraged but thriving in mining and beyond.
