The Carmichael Coal Mine and Beyond

Many will remember when the Sydney Mining Club first hosted Adani and its Carmichael Coal Project – now called Bravus Mining and Resources – back in 2019.

Three years on, Bravus has successfully delivered its first coal to the Bowen export terminal, en route to a Stage 1 capacity of 10Mtpa.

During the construction phase of the mine and rail projects, Bravus delivered more than $1.5 billion in contracts and 2,000 jobs to benefit regional Queensland. More than 9,000 indirect jobs have also been created.

Now well into production, Bravus is exporting high quality 5000 kcal/kg thermal coal with low sulphur, low trace elements and low ash. This will meet the import requirements of key developing markets in the Asia-Pacific region and reduce emissions from energy generation around the world.

Surprising to many, the Adani Group is also the world’s largest solar company with a total 24.3GW of renewable energy capacity – enough energy to power more than 8.5 million homes. It runs the 65MW solar farm a couple hundred kilometres east of the Carmichael mine in central Queensland is part of this green energy portfolio.

At this lunch forum, CEO of Adani Australia Lucas Dow will explain how Bravus secured the project’s approvals and delivered first coal for export against a backdrop of relentless attacks from activists and the global pandemic.

Dow will also discuss the critical role Australia’s high-quality thermal coal plays in reducing energy prices and emissions around the world.
