About the National Landholder Engagement Training

Hear directly from landholders on what’s going well and where we can improve. There will be a full day of training on risk and crisis communications. Attendees will also get insights from land agents and community engagement leaders about things they have learnt on the ground and explore how to support each other.

Day 1 - Welcome + setting the scene (Starts at 2pm)

  • The social licence context
  • Setting the scene: Renewable energy development and why we need to get it right
  • Landholder Insights Panel: Chat with landholders on what’s going well and our opportunities to improve
  • Welcome + networking drinks

Day 2 - Skills development workshop

  • Communicating controversial projects with Risk Communication Specialist, Kelly Parkinson: Full day training on understanding and responding meaningfully to community concern
  • Land Agent Insights Panel: Chat with land agents and community engagement leaders to share experiences
  • National Landholder Engagement Training Dinner with guest speaker

Day 3 - Full day bus excursion (Finishes at 3pm drop off at Wagga Wagga Airport, 3:45pm at Transgrid Discovery Hub)

  • Site visit: Renewable greenfields site, meeting with host landholder
  • Site visit: Transmission towers and sub-station in construction phase
  • Site visit: Solar farm in operation, meeting with host landholder

Please note for the Day 3 bus excursion: There will be some walking involved from the bus to each site, this is expected to be around 500 metres and on flat but uneven terrain. We will be going onto operational Transgrid sites and landholder sites, where all training participants will need to wear hiking or safety boots and bring a High Vis vest. If you do not have a High Vis vest, one can be organised. Safety and induction procedures will be held at the Transgrid Discovery Hub prior to the visits.

The Discovery Hub recently opened on 16 April 2024, offering a consistent and accessible point of connection with the Wagga Wagga community, landowners, and businesses in the surrounding areas. This innovative shopfront provides visitors with an inviting, space to engage with Transgrid and access information about our energy vision, major projects, operations, and community-based activities, all tailored to highlight the crucial role Wagga Wagga plays in the energy transition, and the opportunities this presents for the community.

Who should come to the training?

If you’re a Land Liaison/Access/Acquisition Lead or Community Engagement Specialist working in renewable energy development (wind, solar, hydro or transmission) this training is for you!

Also welcome are engineers, environmental specialists and project managers and others working directly with landholders and communities to join for the opportunity to upskill.
