First Fuel Live with Luke Menzel and Dr Megan Woods
You are invited to attend a live webinar with the Hon. Dr Megan Woods, New Zealand’s Minister of Energy and Resources and Minister of Housing
Join Luke Menzel and Dr Megan Woods as they unpack New Zealand’s action on climate change, and analyse the lessons for Australia as we begin a new chapter in our own climate policy.
New Zealand has long been a leader in climate action, having implemented a successful emissions trading scheme in 2008, and being one of the first countries in the world to legislate a net zero emissions by 2050 target. New Zealand also understands the key role of energy efficiency, with the longstanding NZ Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority providing leadership, advice and practical programs to help New Zealand homes and businesses reduce energy use.
During this webinar, take a deep dive into how New Zealand uses energy efficiency as key part of their first Emissions Reduction Plan, released this year. The Plan – required by law - sets out how New Zealand will meet its 2022-25 emissions budget through domestic action. It outlines climate strategies across a range of sectors including transport, energy, waste, building and construction, and agriculture and forestry, all designed to set New Zealand on a pathway to meet its 2050 net zero target.
Attendees will also hear how the NZ Government has invested significantly in reducing emissions across the whole economy – from upgrading the thermal performance of New Zealand’s housing stock, to increasing the number of electric vehicles on the road, through to a NZ$1 billion program to decarbonise industry.
Importantly, there will be an opportunity for those joining live to ask the Minister questions and gain her insight into the pressing issues here in Australia.
