Joss' background is in Civil Engineering and Surveying but he managed to convince a professor at the University of Newcastle to give him a scholarship to undertake a PhD in Mechanical Engineering, with his research centring on optimising small wind turbines. Joss received his Doctorate earlier this year and has started a company, Diffuse Energy, to commercialise his research. He and his team have undertaken CSIRO’s ON Prime and ON Accelerate commercialisation programs through which Joss received a scholarship to attend the prestigious Stanford Graduate School of Business. He is also currently working as an academic and lecturer at the University of Newcastle.
