Climate Essentials - Carbon Removal Professional Short Course
This Climate Essentials - Carbon Removal short course has been designed for professionals who want an overview of the latest developments around carbon removal.
Climate change is here and we are experiencing its growing impacts every day. Reducing our greenhouse gas emissions as soon as possible is essential, but this effort alone is no longer enough to limit temperature increases to globally agreed levels. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change’s (IPCC) most recent reports have demonstrated that achieving the levels of warming stipulated in the Paris Agreement is only possible with the removal of carbon dioxide from the Earth’s atmosphere. This carbon dioxide removal must be over and above the carbon offsets that are currently being used to meet net zero targets globally.
As integrity concerns run rampant in existing carbon offsetting schemes, the need for approaches and technologies that remove and store carbon for the long-term, at scale, with integrity are more necessary than ever before. The investment required to achieve carbon dioxide removal at scale has the potential to not only transform our climate for the better but to positively transform the people and places that host carbon removal activities too.
This Climate Essentials - Carbon Removal short course has been designed for professionals who want an overview of the latest developments around carbon removal. It covers both the science of carbon removal and policy responses across a range of sectors.
Delivered by the ANU Institute for Climate, Energy & Disaster Solutions, this short course brings together leading climate researchers from across the University.
