Timor-Leste invites Australian METS sector to explore new mining opportunities
Timor-Leste is opening a tender for mineral exploration in 2025, offering Australian mining equipment, technology, and services (METS) businesses opportunities to engage in the country's resource development, supported by a strong regulatory framework.
Timor-Leste has announced fresh opportunities for Australian businesses in the mining equipment, technology, and services (METS) sector. The country will be holding a new tender for mineral tenements in early 2025, aimed at attracting businesses with specialist expertise and equipment.
At a recent Austrade-hosted webinar, Timor-Leste’s Minister for Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Francisco da Costa Monteiro, shared insights on the country’s geology and potential for resource development. He highlighted that Timor-Leste has a solid framework to support mining activities and invited Australian businesses to explore the opportunities available as the nation advances its mining sector.
Rafael D M de Araújo, President of the Autoridade Nacional dos Minerais (ANM), also gave an overview of the regulatory landscape, including the Mining Code and Legal Framework. He explained the process by which companies can acquire mineral rights and shared the preliminary timeline for the Mineral Public Tender Licensing Round set for 2025.
Austrade’s support for the event is part of the Australian Government’s broader engagement with Southeast Asia, responding to initiatives aimed at strengthening economic ties in the region.
Australian METS businesses interested in Timor-Leste’s mining sector can get more information by contacting Daniel Hall, Austrade’s Senior Adviser for Timor-Leste. Austrade will also be present at the International Mining and Resources Conference (IMARC) in Sydney from 29 to 31 October, where interested businesses can meet Austrade representatives at the Collaboration Lounge.
