Standing Committee hold fifth public hearing into energy future
Dispatchable energy generation and storage capability inquiry hears from more experts today
The House of Representatives Standing Committee on the Environment and Energy will today hold its fifth public hearing for its inquiry into dispatchable energy generation and storage capability in Australia.
Committee Chair, Ted O’Brien MP said that “the Committee is looking forward to hearing a range of views from Australian government agencies, academics, energy providers and other interested parties on Australia’s future electricity needs, new and emerging dispatchable energy technologies, storage options and transmission issues.”
“Australia’s energy generation mix is changing with the increasing use of renewable energy and the retirement of thermal energy capabilities. In that context Australia needs to ensure sufficient dispatchable energy capacity to keep the lights on and businesses running in the coming years."
"The Committee continues to consider how increased variable generation sources and new technologies can improve the electricity system, while protecting its security and reliability, and keeping costs down for all consumers”, Mr O’Brien said.
The Standing Committee are also currently formulating the Climate Change (National Framework for Adaptation and Mitigation) Bill 2020 and Climate Change (National Framework for Adaptation and Mitigation) (Consequential and Transitional Provisions) Bill 2020
