The NSW Going Global Export Program has opened applications for early-stage and new-to-market exporters in the cleantech sector. This stream offers businesses the chance to explore export opportunities in the United States, with support to enter the U.S. market. Eligible companies can apply for free support to export their cleantech products or services, and selected participants will attend the Cleantech Forum North America in San Diego, California, from 27–29 January 2025.

The United States presents a promising market for Australian cleantech exporters, given its push towards net-zero emissions by 2050 and clean electricity by 2035. Federal support, including grants and tax credits, is available for clean energy technology deployment, covering sectors like solar, wind, electric vehicles, and grid technologies. Major corporations and investors are also showing increasing interest in the cleantech industry, and U.S. infrastructure laws are driving upgrades in energy, pollution management, and resilience to extreme weather.

The NSW Going Global Export Program requires applicants to meet various criteria, such as being headquartered in NSW, having between 5 and 199 employees, and having products already achieving sales. Businesses must be export-ready and capable, with a willingness to adapt their product for the U.S. market and travel for events. Additional requirements include having raised or planning to raise Series A funding and showing a clear product-market fit for the U.S. Participants will need to commit to scaling their business in the U.S. within 12 months.

In return, the program offers a comprehensive curriculum, including introductory sessions on intellectual property protection, market intelligence briefings, cultural training, and go-to-market strategies. Participants will receive 1:1 advisory support from Investment NSW staff, introductions to mentors and potential U.S. partners, and guidance on raising capital and setting up business operations in the U.S.

Applications for this export opportunity are now open and close on 29 September 2024.
