Mittagong event to explore AgriSolar, geothermal energy, and community power initiatives
Attendees on Thursday will have the opportunity to ask questions, connect with experts and join research projects, making it a valuable session for those interested in sustainable land use and clean energy.

The future of sustainable land use and local energy solutions will be the focus of a community event hosted by
WinZero at Mittagong RSL on 13 March. The event will bring together experts to discuss renewable energy initiatives and practical opportunities for landholders to reduce emissions while maintaining productivity.
A key part of the discussion will be the proposed AgriSolar Cooperative Research Centre (CRC), a $100 million initiative aiming to integrate solar energy with agriculture. Dr Liz Smith, Research Partnership Development Manager for the NSW Land & Primary Industries Network (LPIN) and Bid Director for the AgriSolar CRC, will speak about the project’s potential to create new revenue streams and improve farm resilience. Julia McKay, Industry Bid Coordinator for the CRC, will also share insights into the initiative and how landholders can get involved.
Dr Smith's work is about giving landholders practical, research-backed options for reducing emissions without compromising productivity.
The event will also provide an update on the Wingecarribee Virtual Power Network, an initiative designed to enhance local energy security. Chris McGuigan and Neil Warner will discuss how the project is progressing and what it means for residents and businesses.
Another key topic will be a research project from the University of Wollongong on geothermal energy. Landholders will have the chance to learn how they can participate in a study, which aims to assess the potential for geothermal energy in the region.
In addition, Regen Labs will provide an update on the Highlands Home Grown Economy, focusing on regenerative farming and sustainable bioproducts.
The event is free and open to all community members, farmers, business owners, and anyone interested in local renewable energy developments.
