Hunter Valley mining innovation to take centre stage at Roadshow on Thursday

By shining a spotlight on innovation in mining, the Austmine Newcastle Roadshow aims to foster practical solutions that benefit the Hunter and beyond.

Austmine’s Mining Innovation Roadshow is set to bring mining leaders and technology innovators together in Newcastle on Thursday. The event, hosted at the McDonald Jones Stadium, will delve into the latest advancements transforming the mining industry, with a particular focus on the Hunter Valley’s unique contributions and challenges.

The Roadshow provides a platform for mining equipment, technology, and services (METS) companies and mining organisations to share ideas and connect. With the Hunter Valley’s rich mining heritage as the backdrop, attendees will explore how collaboration and cutting-edge technologies can optimise the mining value chain.

“Collaboration is vital in achieving results across the industry,” said Austmine CEO Chris Gibbs Stewart. “This event celebrates real-world examples of partnerships driving innovative solutions for sustainable and efficient practices.”

The day-long program includes sessions covering collaboration, technology in action, and strategies to navigate future industry landscapes. Discussions will focus on automation, artificial intelligence, and digital tools that are reshaping mining operations. Industry leaders will also address challenges such as operational efficiency, workforce development, and youth engagement to prepare the sector for the future.

Key presentations include Frank Fulham, Chief Development Officer at Yancoal, discussing enterprise transformation, and Vanessa White and Ralph Nunes from Orica showcasing geophysical sensors for mining optimisation. A panel led by Dr Dallas Wilkinson, Chair of Austmine, will explore how partnerships between companies are addressing challenges and creating opportunities in the sector.

Alan Broadfoot, Director of the Newcastle Institute for Energy and Resources (NIER), will participate in the panel discussion titled "Driving Innovation Through Strategic Partnerships." This session aims to explore how collaboration between industry players fosters technological advancements and addresses key challenges in the mining sector. Alan’s experience in leading energy and resource initiatives adds valuable insights into how partnerships can contribute to innovative and sustainable practices.

In addition to the conference sessions, attendees can network over morning tea, lunch, and post-event drinks. The event aims to facilitate new connections and collaborations that can drive progress across the resources industry. Registration is open to Austmine members, non-members, and employees of mining organisations, with fees starting at $750 plus GST.
