Hunter region businesses invited to register interest in Hunter Transmission Project
EnergyCo is encouraging Hunter-region businesses to register their interest in working on the Hunter Transmission Project, a project that involves building a critical high-voltage transmission line that will run for around 100 kilometres as part of the State's renewable energy transition.
The Hunter Transmission Project (HTP) is essential to ensuring NSW has a reliable electricity supply as the remaining coal-fired power stations close. The project will deliver clean energy produced in the new Renewable Energy Zones to consumers across NSW
A major infrastructure project that will require a workforce of around 700 people, the HTP will provide opportunities for a variety of trades, services, and professionals.
The Energy Corporation of NSW (EnergyCo) is committed to creating local job opportunities and economic benefits for the Hunter region, with a "Hunter-first" approach prioritizing local employment and engagement with local services.
The types of services and jobs needed to build the HTP include labourers, security guards, cleaners, and mining escorts, as well as engineers, planners, scientists, and commercial professionals. Local suppliers are also invited to register their interest, including civil contractors, surveyors, electricians, and arborists.
"We're committed to creating local job opportunities and economic benefits for the Hunter region," said EnergyCo Executive Director Planning and Communities Ash Albury.
"We encourage local businesses and service providers to attend an industry briefing and register their interest to work on this once-in-a-generation infrastructure project."
EnergyCo will hold industry briefings in the Hunter region to explain the procurement process, timelines, and ways businesses can be involved. The briefings will be held at various locations, including Singleton Library, Cessnock Leagues Club, Toronto Diggers, NEX Newcastle, and online.
EnergyCo anticipates appointing the design and construction contracts for the HTP from mid-2025. To register interest in working on the HTP, businesses can visit EnergyCo's website and register their details on the ICN Gateway.
