Connecting communities to circular businesses with ReUse Hunter Map
The new platform helps Hunter residents find repair, hire, and second-hand services to reduce waste and promote sustainability.
A new community mapping tool, ReUse Hunter, is helping connect residents in the Hunter region with businesses that repair, hire, donate, refurbish, or sell second-hand goods. Developed by the Hunter Joint Organisation and funded by the NSW Environment Protection Authority, the tool aims to reduce waste and keep valuable materials in use.
Unlike earlier campaigns that raised awareness about the connection between consumption and waste, ReUse Hunter provides a direct way for community members to engage with solutions. Users can explore circular businesses in their council area and the broader Hunter region, add their favourite services to the map, and help businesses connect with like-minded customers.
Whether someone is looking to fix an old bicycle, donate furniture, or shop for pre-loved fashion, ReUse Hunter offers a simple way to locate sustainable options close to home. The platform caters to a wide variety of needs, making it easier for residents to find services that contribute to reducing waste while potentially saving money.
“ReUse Hunter has been developed to help community members re-use or repair products to minimise waste and keep valuable products in circulation,” said a spokesperson for the Hunter Joint Organisation.
Circular business owners can also promote their services on the platform, reaching customers who prioritise sustainability. “If you own a circular business—whether it’s repairing, refurbishing, or renting out items—you can easily add your business to the map and connect with customers who care about sustainability,” the platform’s developers explained.
Users are encouraged to add their favourite businesses to the map, further strengthening the community and supporting the growing network of circular services in the Hunter region.
“ReUse Hunter provides a whole of region approach to the circular economy, allowing community members to add their favourite businesses and business owners a platform to promote their businesses to like-minded people,” the spokesperson added.
